Dr. Chantal Farmer presents on suckling effects in sows

Dr. Chantal Farmer at the EAAP conference

Dr. Chantal Farmer, an ASAS-EAAP exchange speaker and former Editor in Chief of the Canadian Journal of Animal Science presented the following invited talk: Suckling effects in sows: does teat use in first lactation affect its yield in second lactation? Dr. Farmer presented work done at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Dairy and Swine R&D Centre in Sherbrooke.

Dr. Farmer focused on the fact that sow milk yield can limit piglet growth and the need to increase sow milk yield. Dr. farmer focused on the cellular and molecular controls on milk yield and possibilities of transferring this knowledge to production solutions to enhance milk yield by the sow resulting in enhanced growth in the piglet.
